“Daniel’s still one of the best English strikers around, and has proven that over a number of years”
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler
“He is a proud man, he wants to play games, score goals. A fit and firing Daniel Sturridge is one of the top English strikers still.
“If the team is playing well, scoring goals then there isn’t that much you can do. You have to bide your time, if that’s what you want to do, and hopefully you get a chance.
“It’s up to players, Daniel included, to stick in there and do as well as what the others are doing. On his day is a very good player.”
Fowler found himself in a similar situation to Sturridge back in 2001 when he was forced to the fringes of Liverpool’s squad by Gerard Houllier and later sold to Leeds.
The 42-year-old says the injury-hit Sturridge deserves credit for heading to the Hawthorns to revive his career.
