Aston Villa are again being heavily linked with a move for Norwich midfielder Gary O’Neil, who could be available on a free transfer.
Villa are planning for life in the Championship following a disastrous season which ended in relegation and reports claim they have identified O’Neil as a player who can help them back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
The Midlands outfit have yet to confirm who their new manager will be next season, but that will not stop them pressing ahead with a move for the Canaries midfielder.
O’Neil has vast experience in the Championship and could jump at the chance to join a club the size of Villa, if Norwich do not tie him down to a new deal in the summer.
All talks are on hold for now as Norwich battle to stay in the top flight but it looks as though O’Neil will have plenty of options should he leave Carrow Road.
“I’ve not really thought about my future,” O’Neil said earlier this week. “The relegation battle is all-consuming at the minute. The club haven’t mentioned anything to me, and I don’t mind that.
“IÂ’ll be fully committed to the next four games and do everything I can so Norwich are in the Premier League next year, whether IÂ’m here or not.”
