Arsenal are reported to have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Napoli central defender Kalidou Koulibaly this summer.
The Gunners have just wrapped up their first signing of the close season when landing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, and reports now claim they will turn their attentions to Koulibaly.
Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker are both over 30 and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to inject some youth into his backline ahead of next season.
The 24-year-old was one of the best defenders in Italy last season, but he can also play at right-back or as a defensive midfielder, which makes him even more appealing.
However Chelsea have long been linked with a move, and reports in Italy have gone as far as suggesting the Blues are locked in talks with Napoli over a deal.
New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is keen to sure things up completely at the back before focussing on the rest of his side and it would appear that Koulibaly is one of his top targets.
