The Gabonese international fuelled speculation he would sign for Madrid when telling French newspaper L’Equipe: “In 2014, just before the death of my grandfather, who was born in Avila 100 kilometres from Madrid, I gave him the promise to play one day for Real.”

Of course, any deal would hinge on whether the Toffees are willing to sell their coveted forward, who joined for £28m in 2014.

The Belgian ace has scored 61 times in 117 appearances to cement his position as one of the best young talents in world football.
