Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is set to go head to head with his former club Borussia Dortmund for German World Cup winner Mario Gotze.
Klopp was his manger when he was previously at Dortmund before he moved on to arch rivals Bayern Munich and the player is said to be keen on a reunion with the club he left for 37m euros.
Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim WatzkeÂ’s has thrown a potential spanner in the works by revealing that they are also interested in signing the World Cup winner.
Watzke said: “If he’s on the market, it’s clear if we discuss about him.
“The door is always open for every player who comes from Dortmund.”
It’s not so clear how a return to Dortmund would go down with the club’s fans, Watzke added: “If he returns we have to talk with the fans and he has to explain how he left for Bayern.
“But I don’t think that they won’t give him a second chance.”
A move to Liverpool may turn out to be a lot less problematical.
