Stoke’s attempts to sign Mamadou Sakho from Liverpool appear to have failed after the player turned down a move to the club.
Potters boss Mark Hughes is keen to bolster his ranks with a new central defender and turned to Sakho after being told by Manchester United that Phil Jones was not available.
A deal for Sakho looked to be on the cards after Liverpool told him he was free to find himself another club before the transfer deadline passes, but the player has other ideas.
It has now been suggested that Sakho has turned down a potential switch to the bet365 Stadium and is refusing to leave Anfield as he attempts to battle for his first-team place.
There are reports that all is not well between Sakho and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, who is happy for the player to move on, despite Liverpool shipping goals in their opening three games.
