Christian Benteke has confirmed that he would like to stay and fight for his place in the Liverpool side next season.
The 25-year-old Belgium international, who only signed in a £32.5million deal from Aston Villa last summer, has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield as it appears he does not fit into the plans of current boss Jurgen Klopp.
However, having forced his way into the side of late and grabbed his ninth Premier League goal of the campaign in Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea, Benteke has spoken of his desire to stay on Merseyside.
West Ham have been heavily linked with a £25million bid in the summer transfer window, but Benteke told the Liverpool Echo: “When I signed I didnÂ’t sign for one year – I want to stay here next year.
“I think I have the quality and the manager knows my strengths and weaknesses – I’ve no doubt (Klopp can make me better).
“I know IÂ’ve had a tough season but IÂ’m going to fight until the end. Everything can change so I keep focused and keep going for the team and myself.”
