Joe Allen says he is delighted to have completed his £13million move from Liverpool to Stoke City.
Allen, who had a year left on contract at Anfield, was the subject of huge interest after enjoying a sensational Euro 2016 campaign with Wales as the national team reached the semi-finals.
Former club Swansea City and Europa League champions Sevilla were both keen on acquiring the midfielder’s services but it is the Potters who have been able to tie up a deal.
The 26-year-old only made eight Premier League starts last season under Jurgen Klopp but the switch to the Bet365 Stadium should provide more first team opportunities.
Allen, who has put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal, expressed his delight at securing the move away from the Reds and is looking forward to getting started.
“It’s been a whirlwind 48 hours for me but I am delighted to have finally been able to put pen to paper,” he said. “I was really excited as soon as I heard of the club’s interest and it wasn’t a difficult decision to make.”
Liverpool may now look to bring in a replacement for Allen and Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who is eyeing an exit from St James’ Park, has once again been linked.
