Crystal Palace face a battle to land Newcastle winger Andros Townsend following reports Liverpool have entered the race to sign him.
Townsend impressed after joining Newcastle from Tottenham in the January transfer window but was unable to prevent them from slipping into the Championship.
Newcastle are desperate to keep hold of the forward and could even offer him an improved deal to make sure he stay at St James’ Park for next season’s promotion push.
Townsend has not ruled out the possibility of staying with the Magpies, but there is plenty of interest from top flight clubs and that is sure to tempt the player.
Palace could even be willing to send striker Dwight Gayle in the opposite direction in an attempt to win the day, but news that Liverpool are also keen could throw a spanner in the works.
The chance to play for Liverpool would be tough to turn down and would make the Reds favourites to do a deal if they followed up their reported interest by making a bid.
