Manchester United are monitoring teenage Sao Paulo striker Luiz Araujo and watched him twice in the past week.
One of United’s top South American spies witnessed the 19-year-old striker impress for Sao Paulo’s Under-20 side on a short three-match tour of Argentina.
Araujo, who was proud to receive the number nine shirt when his club published their squad list for the Copa Libertadores knockout rounds last month, shone in the Under-20 Libertadores last year.
The young striker, who is known for his searing pace and dribbling ability, finished as the top scorer in the Paraguay tournament with five goals as Sao Paulo took the inaugural title.
United’s scout saw him score one and make one in Sao Paulo Under-20’s 2-1 win over San Lorenzo on Tuesday but he could not add to his tally in their 6-1 demolition of River Plate at the weekend.
