The French boss has been in charge of the north London giants for nearly 20 years, and has seen plenty of change in his time at the club.


When he arrived in 1996, Tony Adams had already been captain for eight years, and he remained in position until 2002.

But Mertesacker is set to be the seventh captain in 12 seasons as the turnover of players has increased since the turn of the century.
