Sunderland boss David Moyes remains interested in Joleon Lescott but Rangers have already held talks with the Aston Villa defender.
Moyes is after an experienced centre-back and has targeted Lescott, who he worked with at Everton, as he’s available following Villa’s relegation down to the Championship.
The Black Cats boss may have to move quickly to land the 34-year-old, though, as Rangers are also very keen on Lescott and reports suggest he’s already been up to Glasgow to hold talks with Gers boss Mark Warburton.
Lescott is keeping his options open and may prefer a move to the Stadium of Light to stay in the Premier League, despite indicating over the summer a switch to Ibrox appeals.
The former West Brom and Everton man has one year left on his Villa contract but is available on a free transfer, with Villa keen to get him off their wage bill.
Lescott has not played for Villa yet this season and is instead concentrating on sorting out a move elsewhere.
