Rangers midfielder Joey Barton charged with betting on 44 football matches by the SFA

The 34-year-old has been issued with a notice of complaint and has until Wednesday 12th October to respond.

The hearing for the charge will take place on October 27.

A SFA statement read: “Disciplinary Rule 31: In that between 1st July and 15th September 2016, both dates inclusive, you placed 44 bets upon football matches, and accordingly gambled upon football matches in contravention of Disciplinary Rule 31.”

Barton is currently suspended by Rangers following a bust-up with team-mate Andy Halliday and manager Mark Warburton.
