Saints skipper Jose Fonte warned the Geordie flops they could have been on the end on an almighty tonking if the south coast men had been at the races.

The Portuguese said: “This was a game that we could easily have scored another two or three.

“As soon as the first goal went in you could see the nervousness and the confidence going but it’s a tough situation to be in. They just need to keep going and believing in each other.”
