Boss Benitez, who has 18 months left on his contract, has had preliminary talks with Toon owner Mike Ashley about a new deal.
But first Benitez is anxious to see his squad strengthened before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.
So far, Brazilian winger Kenedy – signed on loan from today’s FA Cup opponents Chelsea – has been the only new recruit this month.
But ahead of the fourth-round tie at Stamford Bridge, for which Kenedy, 21, is ineligible, former Blues boss Benitez was pressed on his own situation.
He said: “I don’t think this is the point now, before this game, to talk about whether I’ve been offered a new contract or not.
“My focus is just to be sure I’m ready for games and I still have another year after this, so it’s not an issue.
