Mauricio Pochettino is hoping his contacts in Argentina can help him win the race for Rosario Central’s midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.
The 19-year-old is hot property and wanted by both of the Manchester giants, who are willing to part with an initial £3million down payment.
Italian side Roma are currently leading the chase and have insisted they will have no problem obtaining a work permit for the teenager.
Pochettino, however, has been informed by his own South American network that the boy’s father would much prefer for his son to move to the Premier League.
Tottenham’s title challenge this season, in addition to their commitment to blooding young players, has seen them emerge as viable contenders for Celso’s signature.
Celso, who has made a first-team breakthrough over the last year, is likened to Pochettino’s legendary former Argentina colleague Juan Sebastian Veron.
