Polter was substituted at half-time against Blackburn on Saturday as a precaution because of a problem with a gluteal muscle.

Polish winger Pawel Wszolek can be added to the squad following his recent loan switch from Hellas Verona.

Defender Joel Lynch is closing in on a return to action after a spell out with an abdominal injury.

Newcastle new boys Daryl Murphy and Christian Atsu will make the trip south as the Magpies go in search of a fifth-successive Championship victory.

Neither man travelled to Derby at the weekend, while Achraf Lazaar was an unused substitute at the iPro Stadium and all three will hope for a taste of the action at Loftus Road.

DeAndre Yedlin hopes his efforts from the bench in the last two games, which include his side’s second goal in a 2-0 win over the Rams, will earn him a first start with manager Rafael Benitez having options at his disposal after a busy summer recruitment drive.

But midfielder Rolando Aarons will be sidelined for around eight weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured metatarsal, while keeper Rob Elliot continues to work his way back to full fitness after a cruciate ligament injury.
