West Brom are being linked with an ambitious swoop to sign Watford striker Odion Ighalo as Saido Berahino’s potential replacement.
Baggies boss Tony Pulis is desperate to bolster his attacking options with quality in the transfer window because he has already lost Victor Anichebe and Stephane Sessegnon having opted not to renew their respective contracts at The Hawthorns.
It leaves record signing Salomon Rondon, Rickie Lambert and youngster Jonathan Leko as the only guaranteed strikers to be at the club when the new season gets under way next month.
Berahino continues to be linked with a move to Premier League rivals Stoke but there looks like nothing will develop until Albion have a suitable replacement in the bag.
Atletico Madrid striker Borja Baston was linked late last week, while fresh reports suggest Pulis would like to get Nigeria forward Ighalo if possible.
The 27-year-old scored 15 Premier League goals in his debut top-flight season last term and would be an ideal replacement for Berahino.
It was claimed that the Hornets turned down a £37.5million offer from Chinese club Shanghai SIPG, but that was more on the part of Ighalo not wanting to move in that direction.
That figure would no doubt be out of West Brom’s price range, but the two clubs could possibly agree on a lower valuation if Ighalo intimates that he would like a move to Albion.
