Tony Pulis has confirmed Jonny Evans missed West Brom’s EFL Cup tie at Northampton due to injury – not because he is joining Arsenal.
The 28-year-old Northern Ireland international central defender has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners, who have a number of injury problems in defence at the start of this season.
There have been claims that Albion have demanded a £25million fee for Evans but those reports appear misguided, and it seems unlikely Arsenal would be prepared to pay such a figure for Evans.
Nevertheless, Evans’ absence from the Baggies side as they crashed out of the EFL Cup on penalties against the League One outfit on Tuesday resulted in further claims it was so he didn’t pick up an injury, which would scupper a switch to the Emirates Stadium ahead of next Wednesday’s transfer deadline.
But Albion boss Pulis hit back and told the Express & Star: “Jonny’s got a knock on his hip, there was no chance of him playing.”
When asked if it was anything to do with Arsenal being interested, he added: “No, not at all.”
