Southampton are being linked with a £5million swoop to sign Tottenham’s fringe defender Kieran Trippier.
The Saints have been used to losing key figures to the north Londoners over recent years with boss Mauricio Pochettino departing for White Hart Lane in summer 2014, while midfielder Victor Wanyama has followed the same route from the south coast earlier in this transfer window.
However, current boss Claude Puel is scouring the market for competition to Portugal international right-back Cedric Soares and he has identified Trippier as a possible recruit.
The 25-year-old only joined Spurs last summer from Burnley for £3.5million but he barely figured with six Premier League outings and could be interested in the possibility of gaining more first-team action at St Mary’s.
Trippier could be given more time on the pitch if he stays at Spurs now they have Champions League football next term, while he would almost certainly figure at Southampton due to their involvement in the Europa League.
