Newcastle United are one of three clubs said to be considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Alex Pritchard.
Pritchard has been told by Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino that he can leave this summer and the 23-year-old was left out of the pre-season trip to Australia.
The former England Under-21 international is now reportedly a target for the Magpies and Rafael Benitez is eager to wrap up a deal before their Championship opener away at Fulham a week on Friday.
Andros Townsend departed St James’ Park for Crystal Palace in this transfer window and although Matt Ritchie has been brought in from Bournemouth, the Spanish boss wants more midfield options.
Pritchard is well-suited as a winger or as a number 10 and he would be a good addition to a Newcastle side looking to bounce straight back to the Premier League.
However, the North East outfit are set to face competition from both Leeds United and Norwich City and a bidding war could push the reported £8million valuation up to around £10m.
