Once upon a time no top flight league table was published until at least three games into the season, but these days it’s done as soon as possible.
That means after just one match of the 2016/17 Premier League campaign, Manchester United sit top courtesy of a 3-1 win at Bournemouth, which gave them a goal difference just one better than six other clubs also on three points.
It’s a slender margin, so is it ridiculous to read anything into topping the table after only one match?
Out of interest, we wanted to see which clubs were first after a game in the past 10 Premier League seasons, compared to which side went on to claim the title.
