Meireles has six months left on his current deal with Fenerbahce and reports claim he has stalled in renewal negotiations with the club.
According to Fanatik, Villa have made initial contact with Meireles’ representatives but a deal may hinge on whether the Midlands club can miraculously escape relegation from the Premier League.
Villa are keen on landing Meireles on a free transfer but the player would be reluctant to move to Villa Park should they drop down to the Championship.
The 33-year-old joined Fenerbahce from Chelsea in 2012 and has made 83 appearances for the Yellow Canaries.
However, he has struggled to make an impact for the Istanbul outfit this season, featuring just 12 times, and is now ready to move on.
