Newcastle will face strong competition from Premier League clubs if they pursue a deal for Angers midfielder Cheikh NDoye this summer.
The Magpies are planning for life in the Championship but there is still significant funds available for new signings and NDoye is reported to be on the list of targets.
The 30-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League for the last 12 months, and it remains to be seen if he would consider playing Championship football with the Magpies.
NDoye impressed again with the French side this season and clubs such as West Ham United, Everton and Swansea City have all been linked with a move.
The midfielder will not be short of offers this summer and Newcastle can only hope the prospect of playing in front of huge crowds at St James Park could sway him towards the north east.
The chance to play under Rafael Benitez could also be a huge pull, and all transfer deals could be on hold until the Spaniard has made a decision on his future.
