Stoke midfielder Glenn Whelan could miss this weekend’s clash with Stoke after injuring his back while getting out of the car.
Whelan has been an ever-present in the Stoke side this season, but that record is now under threat after picking up the problem earlier in the week.
The Republic of Ireland star will be monitored ahead of the weekend and assistant boss Mark Bowen is keeping his fingers crossed it is nothing serious.
Whelan returned from international duty with a back problem but managed to struggle through the 2-2 draw with Swansea last weekend.
However he seems to have aggravated it while getting out of the car.
“He did it, very simply, getting out of his car. People who’ve had bad backs will tell you how it can happen. He didn’t do anything untoward; he just got out of the car and felt something crack in his back. That was it,” Bowen told the Stoke Sentinel.
