United’s representative was joined by scouts from Arsenal, Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town plus AC Milan and a number of Spanish clubs for the Primeira Liga clash.

Sanches has been linked with a summer move to United for several months and the fact that he is a client of powerful super-agent Jorge Mendes suggests he won’t be staying at Benfica long.

The 18-year-old was involved in the moves that led to Benfica’s first two goals, seeing his intended pass forward deflected into the path of Kostas Mitroglou for the first before he burst into the box to win the penalty for their second.

Rafa Silva, 22, had a quiet game for a below-par Braga and was substituted after 77 minutes.
