Steven Pienaar says Sunderland must use Wednesday’s EFL Cup clash at QPR as a game in which to build confidence after a poor start.
The Black Cats have yet to win in the Premier League so far, claiming just a solitary point from their first five games, and head to QPR short of confidence.
However, Pienaar says the Cup can provide welcome respite from their league struggles and could just be the perfect game where they can get their season up and running.
“Cup games are always different from playing in the league,” he said on the club’s website. “If you asked me if I want a win in the league or the cup it would be the league, but it is an opportunity and we have to take it.
“We will keep going because the games are coming thick and fast, and if we can get a win it would give us a confidence boost ahead of the game against Crystal Palace on Saturday.”
He added: “Wednesday’s game can be the catalyst for us to push on and hopefully wins are just around the corner.”
With Pienaar’s comments in mind, punters wanting to use their free bet might want to back Sunderland to pick up a morale-boosting victory as they aim to book their place in round four of the EFL Cup.
