The 37-year-old was diagnosed with acute leukaemia back in March 2012 and hung up his boots just over a year later.

However, he’s now been given the all-clear and played Sunday League football during the 2014/15 season for Wychall Wanderers.

The Bulgarian is now looking to make a return to professional football and came on for the second half during Villa’s 8-0 win over their Austrian sixth-tier opposition.

Micah Richards and Libor Kozak scored early on before Jordan Ayew, Joe Bennett and Rudy Gestede all netted twice.
