David Moyes may appeal to FIFA in a bid to revive a deal for Boavista goalkeeper Mika after Jordan Pickford’s untimely injury.
The Sunderland manager is facing a goalkeeping crisis after it emerged Pickford was pulling out of the England Under-21 squad over the international break because of a thigh injury.
He joins fellow Black Cats goalkeeper Vito Mannone on the sidelines, meaning Moyes has no fit senior stopper to call upon as things stand. Mannone’s arm injury is set to keep him out for around three months and, while Pickford’s setback is not thought to be too serious, Moyes knows he desperately needs back-up.
Reports say the former Everton and Manchester United manager could appeal to FIFA over the failed signing of Boavista’s Mika on deadline day in the hope that the transfer could yet be allowed to go through, even though the window closed on Wednesday.
