West Ham’s sensational midfield star Dimitri Payet would love be to be at Euro 2016 but does not expect to be picked.
The inspirational schemer has been in excellent form for the Hammers with eight goals and seven assists since his summer move from Marseille, but he does not expect to be in Didier Deschamps’ France squad this summer.
The 28-year-old won the last of his 15 international caps in June last year but, despite his stellar form, he is not confident of performing on home soil later this year.
Payet has no hard feelings toward Deschamps, telling Canal Plus: “[It’s] not as an injustice. The coach has to make choices.
“This is the boss, he selects the players he needs. I’m happy in my shoes, I try to be efficient. I will not say I’m happy to be replaced, I like to play and fight for my place.
“In sporting terms, I am in one of the best periods of my career. If I’m at the Euro that is fine, if I am not there, I know I would have given anything and there will be no regrets.”
