PAUL MERSON COLUMN: Leicester are here to stay, Aguero’s time to shine, Rooney’s new role

30 Apr

Manchester United are chasing the Champions League and their fans won’t want to see Leicester win it in their own back yard.

It’s bad enough for them that Leicester have finished above them, let alone that they’ve actually won the league.

You wouldn’t say there’s anyone in the Leicester team who is world class. But every one of them has played to their maximum ability this season.

You have to admire that.

Riyad Mahrez has deserved his Player of the Year award, Jamie Vardy’s been on fire, N’Golo Kante has been one of the buys of the season, and their centre-backs have run through walls.

They just keep on surprising me. I always said they would stay up last season, even when they were in big trouble.

But they have blown away everyone’s expectations this season. They were 2-0 down at home to Aston Villa at the start of the season.
