PAUL MERSON COLUMN: Fabregas deserves game time, Mourinho’s woes continue

24 Sep

JOSE MOURINHO must have seen the EFL Cup draw and thought: “Oh no, not Manchester City again.”

City gave them a lesson at Old Trafford and they still haven’t recovered. They’re in real danger of losing again to Leicester today.

He needs to get it sorted quickly because he can’t afford to lose at home to City twice in the same season.

But it’s almost a perfect game for Leicester today. United will have to come out and attack and Leicester love that. They can just play on the counter.

United are at sixes and sevens right now. Wayne Rooney is trying to do too much, chasing games, dropping deeper and deeper and getting frustrated. And I don’t know where Paul Pogba is playing. He doesn’t seem to know either.

Rooney is a No.10, he should stay where he is. Sometimes playing there, you just need to hold your position and let the ball come to you. He needs to stop roaming around.

But they have problems. They have a 34-year-old playing up front and I guarantee you that after Christmas Zlatan Ibrahimovic won’t score as many goals as he is now. He doesn’t have the legs.
