Crystal Palace have fitness concerns over new signing James Tomkins after he limped out of the friendly clash with Philadelphia Union.
The Eagles opened up their pre-season campaign in the United States with a 0-0 draw and, despite a lack of goals, boss Alan Pardew was happy with the workout.
However, he does have one or two injury concerns after Tomkins picked up a muscle strain, while Sullay Kaikai also limped out of the action and will need assessing.
“James [Tomkins] got stretched twice in his first two moments in the game and has got a little strain, that was a bit of a disappointment, but I don’t think it will keep him out too long,” Pardew said. “Sullay Kaikai has got a calf strain as well and had to come off.
“Our fitness levels looked good for our first game, we lacked a little bit of sharpness, cutting edge, but they still needed their keeper to make three top drawer saves.”
Meanwhile, Pardew was delighted with the performance of fellow new boy Andros Townsend, who was the star of the show.
He added: “Andros showed why he’s going to be an important player for us, he was a real highlight of our team.”
