Mesut Ozil says Arsenal need to strengthen for next season after feeling they missed an opportunity to win the league this term.
The Gunners ended the campaign as runners-up to surprise champions Leicester City, leaving many fans wondering what might of been had it not been for a disappointing second half to the season.
Ozil has pinpointed a poor spell between February and March as to when Arsenal’s campaign fell apart, the north London club winning one out of eight matches during that run as they lost ground on the Foxes and went out of the FA Cup and Champions League.
Ozil wants to see Arsenal strengthen in the summer in the hope of avoiding a similar fate next season, the German claiming they need to add “stronger” players to the squad.
“I think we dropped a lot of points that we shouldn’t have dropped against smaller teams and I think that was the point in the season where as a team we weren’t strong enough to take just a point and go ahead,” Ozil told Sport360.
“Especially after the Barcelona game we lost some points. That was a time when we weren’t good enough to just take points and go.
“It’s a long season and a lot of things must go right. One of the things is players getting injured which is one factor definitely.
“On the other hand we just have to focus more and with stronger players maybe coming in be competitive for next season and we will see where we end up at the end.”
