Maribor 1-1 Spartak Moskva
Maribor looked set for defeat in their first group stage appearance since 2012/13, but Damjan Bohar popped up with five minutes left to earn them a point.

Group F

Feyenoord 0-4 Manchester City
The unlikely figure of centre-back John Stones scored twice as Manchester City equalled their biggest ever win in this competition, making it a miserable return to the group stage after 15 years away for Feyenoord.

Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 Napoli
Arkadiusz Milik’s second-half penalty made Shakhtar sweat, but earlier goals from Taison and Facundo Ferreyra were enough for the hosts to prevail.

Group G

Porto 1-3 Beşiktaş
Talisca broke the deadlock 13 minutes in – the first goal Porto have conceded this season – with Cenk Tosun’s stunner and Ryan Babel’s late effort wrapping up the points.

RB Leipzig 1-1 Monaco
Emil Forsberg had the honour of registering Leipzig’s first ever UEFA Champions League goal, only for Youri Tielemans to open his Monaco account a minute later.

Real Madrid 3-0 APOEL
Cristiano Ronaldo picked up from where he left off last term, netting his 106th and 107th UEFA Champions League goals as the holders made a winning start to their title defence.

Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Borussia Dortmund
Harry Kane notched twice as Spurs condemned Dortmund – back at Wembley, where they lost the 2013 final – to a first defeat in 13 matches.
