Old Firm duo to battle it out to sign ex-Newcastle defender Steven Taylor

Newly-promoted Hull and Championship side Brighton are also keen on the 30-year-old who is available on a free transfer.

Taylor’s career has been plagued by injuries and after making his Toon debut under Sir Bobby Robson in 2004, he went on to make 278 appearances but just seven in this season.

The experienced defender is not short of offers having turned down a 12 month deal to stay at St James’ Park.

New Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has made a centre half his top priority while Rangers counterpart Mark Warburton is keen to link up Taylor with his former Toon team-mate Joey Barton.
