Mark Hughes says Stoke must be patient as they continue to chip away at a deal for West Brom striker Saido Berahino.
The Potters had a £20m bid for the 23-year-old rejected last month but are firmly in the hunt for the former England Under-21 striker.
It is hoped there will finally be a resolution in the next few weeks, with the transfer window closing at the end of August.
Hughes says Stoke must bide their time as they chase the forward, who it is thought will be allowed to leave the Hawthorns when the Baggies sign a replacement, but a deal remains some way off yet ahead of the new Premier League season kicking off this weekend.
Hughes said: “It is no secret that we have made bids and have an interest in Berahino, but it is not in our hands.
“We just have to be patient and if the situation changes then we will be ready to sit down and talk.”
Albion want at least £25m for Berahino and that is a figure Stoke are prepared to pay, but they are having to wait as things stand.
