Barcelona are planning to hijack Newcastle’s pursuit of Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti, according to reports in Spain.
talkSPORT told you on Tuesday that the Magpies had registered an interest in the 22-year-old, although no concrete offer has yet been made.
Now, according to Sport, Barcelona are set to lure the player to the Nou Camp this summer with a bid of around £11m.
Newcastle were prepared to offer a fee in the same region, but the player is understood to have his heart set on a move to the Spanish giants.
A versatile defender, Umtiti has earned rave reviews for his displays for Lyon this season and is being considered by Didier Deschamps for a call-up to France’s Euro 2016 squad.
Despite his tender age, Umtiti has made over 100 league appearances for Lyon and has also featured in seven Champions League games for the Ligue 1 side.
