Newcastle have beaten off competition from Leicester and Southampton to sign goalkeeper Matz Sels from Gent.
The 24-year-old shot-stopper has reportedly travelled to the North East to complete his move this week after being persuaded to join the club by Rafael Benitez.
Sels was keen on a move to a Premier League club but was given no guarantees by Leicester or Southampton that he would be seriously considered for the No.1 berth.
And now, according to Het Laaste Nieuws, a personal call from Benitez has done enough to persuade Sels to sign for the Championship side.
Sels kept 18 clean sheets in all competitions for Gent last term and helped the club win the Belgian Pro League title in 2014/15.
