“First and foremost, our goal is to ensure that we remain in the Premier League and then, beyond that, I would like to see the club establish itself in the top half of the division.

“I believe it is the best league in the world and I want to take this club as far as possible.”

West Brom, who travel to Crystal Palace for their premier League curtain-raiser, have now joined neighbours Aston Villa, Wolves and Birmingham in being taken over by Chinese owners this summer.

But the Baggies will have the experience of well-respected former Blackburn chairman John Williams to lean on.

Williams takes over as chairman and has pledged to back boss Pulis in the transfer market as he looks for three new signings.

A £16m move for West Ham striker Diafra Sakho collapsed at the 11th hour this week, making the arrival of a new striker top priority.
