Kalidou Koulibaly has revealed that he would not have joined Chelsea even if current club Napoli had given him the green light.
The 25-year-old Senegal international central defender was one of Blues boss Antonio Conte’s top transfer targets in the summer transfer window, but he ended up staying put with the Italian Serie A side after their owner Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed that he turned down an offer of £42million.
Conte swooped to take former defender David Luiz back to Stamford Bridge from Paris Saint-Germain as an alternative to Koulibaly, while Fiorentina’s Marcos Alonso also moved to west London.
Koulibaly has now broken his silence to confirm that he did not want to join Chelsea as he is happy at Napoli and wanted to stay put.
“I decided to stay because I feel good with this team,” he told Il Mattino.
“I know that when I decide to leave, I will do it without problems.
“A 30 thousand fine for my statements? They were written many things, but it is not true.
“I have a good relationship with the management of the Napoli.”
