Arsenal have been handed a boost after reports claimed Valencia have opened the door for Shkodran Mustafi to leave before the deadline.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to land a new central defender before the transfer window closes and has been chasing the German international ever since he lost Per Mertesacker and Gabriel to injury.
Wenger was quoted as saying he was a confident a deal could be struck before the deadline but then Valencia officials ruled out a move, and insisted the defender was going nowhere.
However, in yet another twist, it has been claimed Mustafi will be allowed to complete his move to the Emirates Stadium, as long as the Gunners are willing to match their £26million valuation.
Mustafi and his agent are reported to have met with Valencia officials on Wednesday when he was told he can leave at the right price, and now it is down to the Gunners to match the La Liga outfit’s asking price.
Wenger has been criticised for not spending this summer and the knives will be out again if he fails to wrap up a deal for Mustafi.
