Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dismissed suggestions he is closing in on a move for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi.
Wenger has admitted he is interested in signing a new central defender this summer after losing Per Mertesacker for the next few months, and Mustafi has emerged as a target.
There have been suggestions that the 24-year-old could arrive at the Emirates Stadium this week, but Wenger has ruled that out and says no deals are in the pipeline.
Wenger could also be referring to Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez, who has also been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
“We have not closed any deal with anybody at the moment. That’s the answer,” he said. “You speak about Mustafi. Is it Mustafi or anybody else – we haven’t concluded anything at the moment.”
Meanwhile, according to reports in Spain a shock swoop for former captain Thomas Vermaelen could be on the cards following an injury-hit spell with Barcelona.
