Sunderland boss David Moyes has heaped praise on Jordan Pickford and believes the goalkeeper can have a big future in the game.
The 22-year-old had only made two Premier League appearances before the start of this season but he has been thrust into the limelight at the start of the campaign, as regular first-choice stopper Vito Mannone is currently on the sidelines with an elbow injury.
Pickford has played in the matches against Southampton and Everton and, despite making a mistake against the Saints, Moyes has been impressed by the overall performance levels of the young stopper.
“I actually think Jordan will be pleased with his performance [against Everton] – and he should be pleased because I thought he played well. He handled well and he did his bit,” Moyes said.
“But he is going to get worked, that’s for sure, so he’s going to be put under pressure. It was important that he came through this game well because he played well at Southampton, but let one slip and maybe if another one had gone in we would have had to look at him a bit closer.”
