To pay £30m for a Championship player seems slightly ridiculous, even in the current transfer climate, but that’s what Tottenham did when they signed Moussa Sissoko from relegated Newcastle.
Similarly, the £25m move Yannick Bolasie made from Crystal Palace to Everton seems crazy, even in a summer where £30m transfer fees became the norm.
However, even with such large price tags, players can still prove to be bargains for their clubs – Cristiano Ronaldo’s £80m cost seems like a snip now.
