Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane will reportedly only agree to a move to Manchester United if Jose Mourinho is named the manager.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a £30million bid for the highly-rated 23-year-old French defender who has admitted to being frustrated at his lack of first-team action under current boss Zinedine Zidane due to the form of Pepe and Sergio Ramos.
And while reports claimed Varane would be open to a move to Old Trafford, it is now being suggested that he will only agree to the switch if his former Real boss Mourinho will be the man in charge this summer.
Louis van Gaal has been adamant that he will still be at the helm to see out the final year of his contract, regardless of whether United manage to qualify for the Champions League via a top-four Premier League finish on Sunday or lift the FA Cup at Wembley on May 21.
However Mourinho, speaking in Mexico City where he was coaching a FIFA Legends team, has insisted that he will be returning to work and expects to be signing a contract at a club by June 30.
If United don’t offer the former Chelsea chief a deal to replace Van Gaal, then it seems likely that he will take over at Valencia in Spain, with reports claiming the La Liga side are preparing a £36million five-year contract for the Portuguese tactician.
