Reports in Italy and France claim Jose Mourinho is set to take over at Old Trafford and sign midfielder Lassana Diarra from Marseille.
Sky Italia repeated claims from earlier this season on Thursday when they stated that Mourinho would succeed Louis van Gaal as Manchester United manager this summer.
The ex-Chelsea boss is the bookmakers’ favourite to take the job, despite a number of reports to the contrary that claim the Dutchman will continue in the role even if the Red Devils fail to qualify for the Champions League.
The fact that Mourinho, a three-time Premier League title winner and two-time Champions League victor, has not been snapped up by another club during his six-month break from management is a clear indication that he wants the job and believes he can still get it.
Reports in France claim ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder Diarra is on Mourinho’s shopping list and the strong bond that exists between the men has been documented in the past.
The 31-year-old Marseille midfielder has been in fine form in Ligue 1 this season and was on Thursday named in France’s Euro 2016 squad ahead of United’s Morgan Schneiderlin.
Diarra, speaking to beIn Sports recently, said: “Mourinho taught me a lot. I saw him in London during the period when I was not playing. He was not even worried about my return to football, he was interested in the man. He knows me well. If I seem reserved or introverted, it is that I am from the ‘Mourinho school’.”
