Bastian Schweinsteiger’s future at Manchester United is up in the air after he trained away from the rest of the squad this week.
Speculation over the German World Cup winner’s place in Jose Mourinho’s plans has raged ever since the Reds boss made it clear he wanted to sign Paul Pogba.
United are closing in on a £100million deal to sign the 23-year-old France midfielder back from Juventus and Schweinsteiger could soon be on the move too.
The midfielder, who has announced his international retirement, trained on his own as United’s full squad trained together for the first time on Thursday.
And reports have subsequently named the 31-year-old German among a list of up to nine players that Mourinho will allow to leave the club – either on loan or permanent deals.
United paid a reported £14.4m to sign him from Bayern Munich 12 months ago but the move did not work out as planned.
Injury restricted Schweinsteiger to 31 appearances and he was involved in just seven of United’s final 34 games, including missing the FA Cup final win over Crystal Palace.
