Cristiano Ronaldo’s winning goal in El Clasico at the Camp Nou was the latest instalment of a facinating running battle, not just between Real Madrid and Barcelona, but between the Portuguese attacker and Lionel Messi.

Barcelona’s star man was kept off the scoresheet as Madrid triumphed in the Spanish league clash, but the Argentine notched another landmark earlier in the week, becoming only the second Argentine to reach 50 international goals for the national team.
