Sunderland’s midfield hard man Lee Cattermole says he has had to get even fitter than normal to meet the demands of Sam Allardyce.
The midfielder has been used in a holding role by previous managers but Allardyce has shoved him further forward in an attack-minded role and for that he needs to be able to compete with both Jack Rodwell and Seb Larsson.
Cattermole has led by example again in the recent upturn in results and hopes he can continue to make an impact on the field as the Black Cats continue to fight for their Premier League lives.
He told the Gazette: “ItÂ’s learning again. IÂ’m enjoying the position. YouÂ’ve got to work hard and, when the gaffer came and played me there, I thought
IÂ’m going to have to get fitter because IÂ’m not fit enough to play how he wants me to.
“I feel itÂ’s coming though.”
